DIRTY LITTLE
GODS
The Musings,
Rants, And Ravings Of A Heretic
by
Billy Flying Red
Horse Starnes
In an age characterized
by a passionate return to the fundamentals of religion
and high morality, DIRTY LITTLE GODS is certain to be one
of the most controversial books published in 2004.
Written by a man who has walked a spiritual path as an
ordained Eastern Catholic priest, a Zen Buddhist
disciple, and an Earth Teacher (all of which were colored
by his self-professed cynicism), DIRTY LITTLE GODS is a
collection of essays that give Flying Red Horse's
observations and opinions on just about
everything.
Divided into sections
called "Fragments," DIRTY LITTLE GODS contains
transcribed sermons, Zen talks, social commentary,
fiction, prose, and general meanderings pooled into a
single collection.
Though Red Horse has in
recent years severed ties with the faith he once served,
Fragment One: Mystical Christianity provides a
surprisingly inspiring and often original interpretation
of the modern Christian paradigm. Inspiring, yes, but
would any other cleric dare to field the hypothesis that
the crucifixion was not a sacrifice? Controversial
indeed!
Fragment Two: American
Zen takes the spirit of meditative contemplation from
the Orient and superimposes it with modern American
sensibilities and insights. What is Zen? What is not Zen
is the REAL question....
Can an avowed
conservationist be at the same time a philosophical
Objectivist and a political Libertarian? Read Fragment
Three: Sociopolitical Commentary and find
out.
Fragment Four: Earth
Teachings is obviously the closest to Red Horse's
heart. Sharing his understanding and experiences of an
ancient wisdom that comes not from any codified and
quantified theology, but from the very Earth itself
(while defending his right to do so against those who
would deny his genetic qualifications) is his own
passion.
A departure from the
preceding fragments, Fragment Five: Prose And Cons
is a sampling of the author's verse and poetry. Are they
odes to a lover or to the Creator? Is there a
difference?
Fragment Six:
Moonwater And The Fox is a captivating introduction
to the characters in the soon to be published book of the
same name. Adult fairy tales that delight and instruct,
Moonwater is wise and Fox is, well, a silly little fox!
Take a trip to the Land of the Great Circle and watch the
Fox chase his tail, boast, and chase his tail again!
The seventh and final
fragment is Horse Apples. Page after page of random
neuron firings, some profound, some humorous, some
downright confusing, this fragment is guaranteed to
provide substantive food for thought for days on
end.
A
PERSONAL WORD OF WARNING FROM THE AUTHOR:
In this
book I opine on religion and politics, the two subjects
that no one dares discuss in polite company. Add a dash
of Libertarian philosophy and you have a highly volatile
mix. I caution anyone who considers him or herself to be
a fundamentalist in any form, be it religious, political,
or philosophical, to think long and hard before reading
DIRTY LITTLE GODS.
Closed
minds don't fare well in such a caustic environment as
this.
